6.2.3.15 — Fans and Associated Air Handling Equipment

(1) Fans for heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems shall be located and installed so that their operation,

(a) does not adversely affect the draft required for proper operation of fuel-fired appliances, and

(b) does not allow the air in the air duct system to be contaminated by air or gases from the boiler-room or furnace-room.

(2) Fans and associated air handling equipment, such as air washers, filters and heating and cooling units, when installed on the roof or elsewhere outside the building, shall be of a type designed for outdoor use.

air-conditioning

means Air-conditioning is the process of treating air in a space to control simultaneously its temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and distribution to meet the comfort requirements of the occupants of the space.

appliance

means a device to convert fuel into energy and includes all components, controls, wiring and piping required to be part of the device by the applicable standard referred to in this Code.

boiler

means an appliance intended to supply hot water or steam for space heating, processing or power purposes.

furnace

means a space-heating appliance that uses warm air as the heating medium and usually provides for the attachment of ducts.

building

(a) a structure occupying an area greater than ten square metres consisting of a wall, roof and floor or any of them or a structural system serving the function thereof including all plumbing, works, fixtures and service systems appurtenant thereto,
(b) a structure occupying an area of ten square metres or less that contains plumbing, including the plumbing appurtenant thereto,
(c) plumbing not located in a structure,
(c.1) a sewage system, or
(d) structures designated in the building code; Act
