4.2.6.1 — Design of Shallow Foundations

(1) The design of shallow foundations shall be in conformance with the requirements of Subsection 4.2.4. and this Subsection.

foundation

means a system or arrangement of foundation units through which the loads from a building are transferred to supporting soil or rock.

shallow foundation

means a foundation unit that derives its support from soil or rock located close to the lowest part of the building that it supports.
