3.6.4.5 — Horizontal Service Space Access

(1) A horizontal service space, consisting of ceiling and duct spaces, that is more than 1 200 mm high and 600 mm wide shall have inspection doors not less than 300 mm in both horizontal and vertical dimensions placed so that the entire interior of the duct or space can be viewed.

horizontal service space

means a space such as an attic, duct, ceiling, roof or crawl space, (a)that is oriented essentially in a horizontal plane, (b)that is concealed and generally inaccessible, and (c)through which building service facilities such as pipes, ducts and wiring may pass.

service space

means space provided in a building to facilitate or conceal the installation of building service facilities such as chutes, ducts, pipes, shafts or wires.
